Since its founding in 1941 by Travis Dickey in Dallas, TX, the Dickey’s Barbecue Pit chain has become the fastest-growing barbecue concept in the U.S. The company began franchising in 1994, and today franchisees operate more than 90% of the locations. Dickey’s restaurants offer smoked brisket, chicken, pork, ham, sausage, and turkey in a fast-casual environment. Beer and wine are available in select locations.
Dickey’s current business model for new franchisees focuses on restaurants in leased spaces of approximately 1,800 square feet located in shopping centers. However, the company has stand-alone locations as well as restaurants in non-traditional venues such as food courts, convenience stores, and institutional settings. Dickey’s projects opening almost 90 new locations in its fiscal year ending May 2012.
