CVS To Open On Vegas Strip
CVS Health announced this month that it plans to open a new CVS store on the Las Vegas strip. The two-story location is expected to open in May of this year near the southeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road. The store will be over 20,000 square feet, double the chain’s 10,000 square foot average. The new store will be open 24 hours a day, just like Vegas.
Casinos aren’t the only businesses making money on the Las Vegas strip. The new location marks the fourth CVS on the strip. Rival Walgreens has five stores on the casino corridor. Drug stores make big money selling medicines, food and alcohol, and souvenirs. The new CVS, along with the company’s 8,000 other locations, will not sell tobacco products.
According to Chain Store Guide’s 2015 Drug Industry Market Share Report, Walgreens leads the Las Vegas, NV market. CVS comes in a close second, with all other competitors taking less than ten percent of the market share each. The country’s third leading drugstore chain, Rite Aid, does not operate stores in Nevada.
